April has proved to be my slowest month for reading this year so far.
Only making it through 2 books was somewhat disappointing. Although, it gives me 12 in the first 4 months, so at that pace, I’m looking at 36 books for the year, still surpassing my goal of 24.
It just goes to show that no matter how slow the progress, as long as the needle is moving, keep plowing away at whatever you’re doing.
No, I didn’t bust out 3 or 4 books as I have in other months, but I didn’t quit and I moved that much closer towards my goal.
I’m celebrating the little wins this month instead of turning the narrative negative.
I’d also like to stop here and say that I’ve become an affiliate of Amazon who is responsible for Audible.com which you’ve seen me promote each month in my reviews.
What that means is that if you haven’t signed up for Audible or are interested in any of the books I’ve read and recommended, when you click on the links in the post, I’ll get a portion of the money spent through those links.
(A little benefit to blogging is the affiliate opportunities available, even though I haven’t brought home anything yet.)
The books I read in April were a direct result of recommendations from others and I think it’s good to hear what others are reading and to talk about these things in order to uncover helpful information we can apply to our lives.
Lastly, before I jump in, I’d love to get your feedback on the way I’ve changed up the look of my review posts each month. Take a look at the first and compare it to this one and let me know which you prefer.
Okay, no more delay, let’s get into the review of April’s books.
I’ve heard about this book for years and have intended to add it to my collection and I finally did. What a great addition to my library too!
Dr. Cloud fantastically applies the concept of setting boundaries to all areas of our lives with the practical advice extolled here. I wish I would have read this book sooner in order to apply these principles to my life earlier.
I would definitely recommend this book if you are struggling with boundaries in your personal or professional life, are a leader of any kind, or if you’re a parent.
In addition to reading for leadership purposes, I’m also on the lookout for things that will help me in the area of writing, blogging, building a business, being an entrepreneur, etc.
I heard from several personalities that I follow (i.e.-read their blog, listen to their podcast, etc.) that this book would help my writing.
Overall, this book just wasn’t for me. It was interesting to hear about his life and how he became a writer, and even gain a little value in the insight he gave.
However, I prefer to not hear a ton of strong language, especially when it comes to books. To me, it’s unnecessary and devalues the message of the author. Unfortunately, that’s what I endured here.
If you’re looking for something that’s more comparable to the message Stephen King is delivering, I would recommend Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art instead.
Well, there you have it, another month down, another few books closer to my goal.
Do you have a goal you set for yourself this year? Where are you in reaching that goal?
Have you had slower times like me, maybe a few hiccups, perhaps even started and need to restart? The good news is that there is still time!
Don’t give up, leave the “what if” behind and keep charging forward!

Did the reviews give a peek into a book you’ve heard about before but not read or introduce you to anything you might find interesting?
