Another month, another 2 books.

Putting that into perspective, I’m on pace to hit 32 books this year! I realize for some this may be a small win, but for me, it’s huge!

One of the things that I’ve seen is that I’m more intentional about reading. I think about what I’m going to read, I think about when I’m going to read, and I think about how much I’m gaining from each book.

I do have to admit, at times my 16 books pales in comparison to someone I see who is at 60 books for the year so far, but I have to remember that I cannot compare my journey with theirs. Isn’t it crazy how often we do this and for the silliest of things?

I know it’s several months away, but I’m already imagining what my goals for reading will be in 2018. Maybe I’ll up my goal or maybe I’ll keep it as is and increase my productivity in another area. Regardless, this has proven to me that goals can be reached and exceeded.

Don’t forget to send me your feedback on the way I’ve changed up the look of my review posts each month. Take a look at the first and compare it to this one and let me know which you prefer.

From the very outset of this book, I was hooked. The story of Icarus and the moral that Seth extracted got me right in the feels. I am always amazed by how Seth can see a different point of view in seemingly normal situations and bring insight that speaks to where I am or where I want to be.

This was not a long book, but extremely worth the read if you are looking for something that helps bring out the passion of desiring to do work that you haven’t because you’ve believed the lizard brain and could use the motivation to dispell some myths you’ve held onto.

The Icarus Deception - Seth Godin

Over the past few years, as I’ve become more focused on what I feel my calling is, I’ve begun to be more intentionally aware of the impact a leader has on people. With that, every interaction has the potential to be profitable or forgettable.

This book brings to the forefront the importance of how aware we should be on a daily basis and not relegate coaching people into bi-weekly meetings or on occasion or when we’ve been inspired by a conference. Rather, implementing the strategies in The Coaching Habit will help it become a more natural occurrence in your leadership.

The Coaching Habit - Michael Stanier

Why these books? Well, I have never come across anything written by Seth Godin that I haven’t gained immense value from and this book has been at the top of my wish list for a while now. I’m glad that I finally took the plunge and read it!

I actually heard about The Coaching Habit from a video I watched of Michael Hyatt and he had just completed that book and was giving it a great review. That, along with the title of the book, I felt as though it would bring me value and it truly did.

What have you been reading lately? Are you choosing things to help you grow and move you closer to leaving the “what if” behind?

Did the reviews give a peek into a book you’ve heard about before but not read or introduce you to anything you might find interesting?
